Super Typhoon Karding intensifies; Signal No. 5 up in parts of Quezon


MANILA, Philippines – Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) intensifies further as it moves westward towards the northen portion of Quezon – southern portion of Aurora, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 11:00 am update on Sunday, September 25, 2022.

PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 over parts of Quezon province.

Super Typhoon Karding intensifies

Signal No. 5 is up over Polillo Island and the extreme northern portion of Quezon (the northern and central portions of General Nakar, and the northeastern portion of Infanta).


NOTE: On the forecast track, ‘Karding’ will likely make landfall in the vicinity of the northern portion of Quezon or the southern portion of Aurora tonight. The possibility of an earlier (afternoon) landfall or close approach in the vicinity of Polillo Islands is not ruled out.

At 10:00 am today, the center of the eye of Super Typhoon ‘Karding’ was estimated based on all available data including those from Daet and Baler Doppler Weather Radars at 175 km East of Infanta, Quezon.

The super typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 240 km/h, and central pressure of 920 hPa. It is moving westward at 20 km/h.

COASTAL INUNDATION

There is a high to very high risk of storm surge more than 3.0 m in height in the low-lying and exposed coastal areas of northern Quezon including Polillo Islands and Aurora.
