Danica Tamsi Padilla, an education student at Benguet State University, said she and her friends boarded a taxi on Monday, May 22. Much to their surprise, they got a free ride courtesy of the driver, Joey Medina. Inside Medina’s taxi, he posted a sign that stated that teachers and students just needed to show their IDs and their fare would be free.

According to Padilla, the driver was proud and happy that his wife passed the LET and he wanted to share their happiness with others. She also said that Medina and his wife earlier agreed to offer free rides if she passed the licensure exam.

Padilla and her friends couldn’t help but be impressed with Medina’s act of kindness. She said, “Saludo po ako sa inyo sa paglibre po ng sakay sa amin. By the way, sa mga naisakay po niya na nailibre niya, alam ko pong alam niyo ang feeling na sobrang nakakatuwa na mayroon pa tayong driver na ganito.”

According to Padilla, she was even more impressed when she discovered that she and Medina’s wife both went to the same school, Benguet State University. Padilla is also dreaming of becoming a teacher, and she’s taking up a Bachelor of Secondary Education – Major in Filipino.

The education student recalled that Medina explained that he wanted to inspire other students, especially those aspiring to be teachers like his wife, to continue working hard in their studies.

Padilla lauded Medina’s generosity in offering free rides, even if it meant losing some of his daily income. She added that during these difficult times, it was impressive to see that there are still some people who make an effort to help others.

The post has gone viral, with more than 97,000 reactions on Facebook.
